The Scottish Borders integrated strategy for physical activity, sport and physical education has been developed in partnership with NHS Borders, SportScotland, Local Sports Councils, Live Borders, Borders College, Volunteer Centre Borders, and through consultation with a variety of key stakeholders.
The purpose of this strategy is to:
- ensure a co-ordinated framework for the development of physical activity, sport and physical education in the Scottish Borders
- develop a well balanced and sustainable infrastructure which meets the needs of existing and emerging communities
- recognise the national and local context for the development of physical activity, sport and physical education
- recognise the value and importance of physical activity, sport, and physical education to the Scottish Borders community
- contribute to the national and local outcomes, priorities, and commitments within the Scottish Borders SOA.
The main themes of the strategy are:
- promoting health and well-being through physical activity
- developing facility provision and community access
- sustaining and developing coaches/leaders and volunteers
- supporting thriving clubs and organisations
- creating athlete potential
- physical education.
