Request or Question
1. I firstly wanted to ask are you aware of what percentage of the residents in the area don't actually recycle?2. Do you know roughly the amount of recycling you get sent every year in tonnes?3. What percentage of recycling is turned away simply because it's not been cleaned?

4. One of the things we are looking at specifically is single-use plastic in the country, out of the plastic that's sent to you what would you say is the percentage that is actually non-recyclable?

5. We've been thinking especially about gluesticks, gluesticks do vary from the area, specifically in the local area do you advise that they just go into the landfill due to the adhesive?
Response
1. Some of the information you have requested cannot be provided  because Scottish Borders Council do not hold it and therefore we give notice under 10(4)(a) of EI(S)R 2004.

2. During financial year 2020/21 Scottish Borders Council received 10062 tonnes of Dry Mixed Recycling from kerbside collections from households and businesses and from our Community Recycling Centres.

3. All material in the recycling bins collected at the kerbside or in our dry mixed recycling area at Community Recycling Centres is sent to a material recycling facility for processing.  Approximately 12% is rejected at the processing plant as contamination.

4. Some of the information you have requested cannot be provided  because Scottish Borders Council do not hold it and therefore we give notice under 10(4)(a) of EI(S)R 2004, as the rejected / contamination figures given to us by the material recycling facility is for all dry mixed recycling before the split into material types.

5. Scottish Borders Council would advise householders to put them in with their municipal waste which is then sent to a processing plant for sorting and treatment (Scottish Borders Council do not send our municipal waste to landfill).
