Response
Scottish Borders Council does not have any formal Local Nature Reserves. Lindean Loch, near Selkirk is managed by the Council as an informal nature reserve.
The Council has adopted 121 Local Wildlife Sites, a list of the Local Wildlife Sites can be found in the Supplementary Planning Guidance for Biodiversity:
1st link below.
The Council seeks to adopt under the next Local Development Plan, 188 Local Biodiversity Sites which will replace the earlier Local Wildlife Sites. Details of the LBS sites are included in a Background report of the proposed Local Development Plan. Please see 2nd link below.
The consultation on LDP2 closed in January 2021, and the examination of the plan is likely to occur later this year or in 2022.
Policies EP1 International Nature Conservation Sites and Protected Species , EP2 National Nature Conservation Sites and Protected Species and EP3 Local Biodiversity of the Local Development Plan provide protection of the statutory designated sites and the non-statutory sites. Protection of other priority habitats includes those identified in the Supplementary Planning Guidance for biodiversity (sections 3.5 and 6.2) and the Local Biodiversity Action Plan. Please see 3rd link below.
