Request or Question: We refer to the above and would be grateful if you would provide us with the following information in connection with Peebles High School and Galashiels High School for the period 1970 to date:-I. All Asbestos Surveys;2. Risk assessments regarding the use of asbestos Bunsen burner mats in science classes; and3. All records showing when the use of asbestos Bunsen burner mats ceased.

Some of the information you have requested cannot be provided because Scottish Borders Council does not hold it and therefore we give notice under 10(4)(a) of EI(S)R 2004. The information we do not hold is copies of the asbestos surveys.

2. Risk assessments regarding the use of asbestos Bunsen burner mats in science classes; and
Unfortunately Scottish Borders Council do not hold the information requested , therefore we refer to 10(4)(a) of EI(S)R 2004 and declare that the information is not held.

3.The gauze that sits over the mats is what was known to contain asbestos, not the mat itself. The uplift and removal of Bunsen Burner gauzes (not mats) was undertaken centrally through the Property Maintenance team in September 2018 as there was no lead science technician in post at this time. Unfortunately Scottish Borders Council do not hold a record of this nor do we hold records dating back to 1970, therefore we refer to S17 of FOI(S)A 2002 and declare that the information is not held.
