Request or Question: Green Car Geotechnical has been requested to undertake a Phase One Geoenvironmental study for Hunters Yard, Station Road, in Gordon (TD3 6LR). Old OS maps show this as a garage. Does Scottish Borders Council hold any records of fuel tanks at the site in the past or any similar information on the use as a garage?
Response: Records held by Trading Standards indicate these premises were used as a vehicle repair and servicing workshop and paint shop. The premises held a petroleum licence for the storage of 100 litres of paint thinners in a can store, and the licence indicates a Gas Oil tank of 227 litres. As this tank did not contain petroleum spirit, no further details are recorded. This licence was revoked in 1997 when the business stopped storing paint thinners on site. The business ceased trading in 1998.Trading Standards holds no records of any other fuel storage tanks on site. However, we would advise that any works on site be carried out with due care and attention and by competent persons such as contractors specialising in this type of work.
