Request or Question
This is a Freedom of Information RequestI observed signs on the northern and southern approaches to Hawick which do not appear to conform with normal tourist signage. The display the silhouette of a horse and rider and the three words SHOP, STOP, STAY. I checked the online planning register but find no obvious permission and the enforcement register but found nothing there either.1. Please direct me to the permission granted for these two signs2. If permission has not been granted has enforcement action been taken and if so what was its outcome
3. If no enforcement action was taken what is the council's reason for taking no action?
Response
Advertisement consent was granted for both signs.
Layby N Old Newton Hawick
00/00317/ADV and 03/01288/ADV
Branxholm Bridgend Hawick
00/00218/ADV and 03/01291/ADV
Both 03 applications were granted consent subject to a condition restricting the permission to 5 years.  No further applications have been received to retain the signs and no enforcement action has been taken.  As planning enforcement is a discretionary service and (as the signs have been in place for more than 20 years) the Council has concluded that it is not in the public interest to pursue enforcement action in this case.
