Approval of Promoted Teachers in Catholic Primary Schools - Freedom of information requests

Title or Description
Approval of Promoted Teachers in Catholic Primary Schools
FOI Number

Date Received

Type of Request
FOI
Request or Question
This FOI concerns the process by which prospective teachers in Catholic schools must gain approval from the local diocese. In order to understand the current situation I would like to request the following information. 1. In the last ten years, how many teachers have had requests for diocesan approval initially rejected with respect to promoted posts in primary schools
2. How many of these rejections were overturned following an appeal process?

3. Where appeals were unsuccessful, what alternative employment was offered by the council? (NB this need not provide identifying information such as a school name - confirming that someone whose request was rejected was, for example, transferred to an equivalent post in another school would be fine)
Response
Within Scottish Borders Council No teacher has been rejected, therefore no appeals have taken place.
The Church seeks to have someone of Catholic faith leading in RC schools but when this isn't achievable the LA and Church work together to ensure strong leadership and the Catholic ethos are achieved successfully.
