Scottish Borders TD8 6PW
We are kindly requesting that, as part of an EIR and should you possess the information, that any relevant or nearby permits, consents, waste licences, hydrocarbon storage permits etc. are provided to us, as part of the due diligence carried out during the investigation.
Response
According to our records, there was a 200 gallon petrol tank on site, installed in 1966. In March 1993, the then owner of the site indicated that the tank was no longer in use, and following advice on procedures to make the tanks safe, the tank was filled with diesel, which was a recognised method of making the tank safe ta the time. The tank was inspected on 12 March 1993, and confirmed to be filled with diesel. We have no further records relating to the tank, and no plan is deposited to indicate the position of the tank.
Our advice would be that it is possible that in the intervening time the diesel has leaked from the tank, and an explosive atmosphere may have returned to the tank, and as such it should be treated with all relevant precautions until it can be established whether the tank remains gas free and safe from risk of explosion.
