Request or Question
I would like to know more information on the erection of two 'unsuitable for hgv' signs on Langhaugh Lane, Galashiels TD1 2UF.What basis were these signs erected on-i.e..Who requested these signs be erected
who evaluated the need for these signs
What the cost was of erecting theses signs
What justification for this spend given that the lane has only 3 houses and HGV traffic is rare and there have been no accidents or incidents involving HGV's on this street.
Response
The signs followed requests from residents in Langhaugh Gardens. This was in connection with some of the residents of Langhaugh Crescent Gardens and Lane financing the surfacing of the private lane that links the Lane and Gardens and wishing to see its use by larger vehicles restricted because of previous damage caused. The Council advised that it would not necessarily be a high priority for the roads service in comparison to the many other demands placed on it but agreed that it would be put forward as a "small scheme" where local Members decided priorities. £460 was subsequently approved from the Small Schemes budget to facilitate the project.
