1. If you have a schedule for clearing gullies on residential roads and if so the frequency with which this work is carried out.
2. Is your maintenance work for clearing gullies carried by a contractor or your own staff?
3. What type of equipment is used? Eg do you own a gully sucker? Or do your contractors use a gully stucker?
4. Have you used new technology for your gully clearing? If so, please give details. Specifically have you used In Touch Ltd SmartWater sensors https://www.intouch-ltd.com/smartwater/gully-systems or do you have plans to do so? If so, what, if any, reductions in cost and/or reductions in blockages have resulted?
Response
The planned frequency can vary depending on location and whether the site is considered to be a hot spot needing greater maintenance, but on average most residential gullies are cleaned out on a 24month frequency. Primarily gully emptying is carried out by our in-house contractor, but external contractors are employed to assist with cyclic maintenance if required. SBC have 2no gully emptiers, and occasionally also utilise a road sweeper for simpler tasks.
When external contractors are employed to assist our in-house service, they also use a gully emptier. We have not utilised any technology for gully emptying, but hope to improve gully emptying data by implementing the Confirm Asset Management System to record cleaning operations.
