Community Council Scheme - Consultations
We want to hear your views on the Scottish Borders Community Council Scheme and the Community Council Handbook.
Community Councils were first established in Scotland following the 1973 Act and the subsequent Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act, 1994, which produced the current system of unitary local authorities and made provision for the continuation of community councils.
There are 69 community councils operating in the Scottish Borders. The Scottish Borders Community Council Scheme sets out the rules under which community councils in the Scottish Borders must abide. To remain current and reflect good practice, it is important that the Scheme is reviewed periodically.
A working group comprised of Elected Councillors and Community Councils was formed to undertake the review of the current Scheme for Community Councils. The working group completed their review of the documents on 12 November, and on 19 December, Scottish Borders Council agreed that the draft Scheme and Handbook should be put forward for Public Consultation.
Consultation
The consultation will run from 24 January 2025 to 23 April 2025.
Access the consultation documents and submit your comments via the survey, by email communitycouncils@scotborders.gov.uk or by post to the Democratic Services Team, Newtown St Boswells, Melrose, TD6 0SA.
