Eildon Living Wage
Living Wage employers in the Borders
We became an accredited Living Wage employer during Living Wage Week 2019. We are now excited to be working with other employers across the region to develop ambitions plans to make the five Scottish Borders localities accredited Living Wage Places.
The Scottish Borders Living Wage Group announced that the locality area of Eildon will be the next locality to benefit from a local approach to encourage more employers to commit to the real Living Wage.
An alliance of prominent local Living Wage employers launched an action plan setting out how they will work together on “Making Eildon a Living Wage Place’.
There are 37 Living Wage accredited employers across the Scottish Borders region, 15 of which are in the Eildon area. More than 9k workers are covered by a Living Wage commitment in Eildon.
The ambitious action plan launched today sets out how the Eildon Living Wage Action Group aims to double the number of accredited Living Wage employers in Eildon within the first year, tripling this within 18 months.
The Action Plan
- encourage employers in hospitality and tourism to commit to the real Living Wage
- support and celebrate small businesses who join the Living Wage employer movement
- grow the Living Wage movement across Eildon and the Scottish Borders
A total of 29 employers across the Scottish Borders region are now accredited Living Wage employers including, institutions with a significant local link to the Eildon locality, such as Scottish Borders Housing Association, Eildon Housing Association, Borders College and ourselves.
Living Wage Scotland are supporting the group to apply for Eildon to be recognised as part of the Making Living Wage Places scheme.
The scheme recognises ambitious place-approaches to grow the Living Wage movement by celebrating the geographical areas that are doing more to expand Living Wage accreditation. Recognition as part of the scheme could mark Eildon as the first rural place in the UK to be recognised for their plans to become a Living Wage Place.
