Footpath gritting
We have a priority system for footway treatment within the Scottish Borders. Footways within main towns are our first treatment priority.
These include main shopping areas and key routes to:
- town centres
- medical centres
- schools
- public buildings
Main pedestrian routes to residential areas and steep hills within housing developments will be treated before we begin treating the rest of the footway network.
Primary footway routes
These cover the main towns in the Scottish Borders and are the first to be treated when severe weather conditions are forecast. These will be be pre salted where possible when snowy conditions are forecast.
Secondary footway routes
These are all other maintained footways in the Scottish Borders. These are treated when no further treatment of primary footway routes are required.
