A recent Care Inspectorate report on Deanfield residential care home in Hawick has highlighted several important strengths at the home.

Inspectors acknowledged that these were having a significant positive impact on the experiences and outcomes of residents.

A full unannounced inspection was carried out at Deanfield between 30-31 August 2022. The inspection was carried out by three inspectors from the Care Inspectorate.

Their report also contains positive feedback from residents themselves who felt they were being cared for by a team that were knowledgeable and had genuine caring and respectful attitudes when supporting them.

As well as the positives highlighted, Inspectors identified three areas of improvement which are now being addressed through an action plan. Areas being looked include:

  • providing more meaningful activities for residents
  • improving cleaning schedules
  • ensuring audits are carried out
  • improving some aspects of medicines management.

All areas for improvement will be met within agreed timeframes as agreed by the Inspectors.

Councillor David Parker, Executive Member for Health and Wellbeing

“The positive feedback contained in this report is testament to the dedication and hard work of the staff team at Deanfield, which I know is also widely recognised by residents, family carers and the wider Hawick community.

“As is the case nationally, our health and social care services continue to face a number of challenges, on top of the events of the past few years, and it is heartening to see the ongoing commitment at Deanfield being acknowledged in this way.

“I have every confidence that the action plan that has been developed will be implemented as a matter of priority, and that this will result in residents receiving an even higher standard of care.”
