As the Scottish Borders prepares for this year’s Doors Open Days Festival, taking place on 2-3 September
Venues, companies, building managers and local groups across the region are invited to get involved by hosting an event
The annual event, which is organised by the Scottish Civic Trust, is Scotland’s largest festival that provides access to some of the most interesting and historically significant buildings in the area whilst celebrating places and stories, new and old. All events are free and take place in person and online.
Living Heritage is the shared European Heritage Days theme for this year and gives applicants a chance to showcase the strong traditions, knowledge and skills which connect our region’s past to our future.
Councillor Simon Mountford, Executive Member for Estate Management & Planning
“The Doors Open Days festival is an exciting opportunity for those hosting an event to draw in new audiences from all over the world and create a strong connection with local audiences too.
“Like last year, the hybrid format means there are plenty of ways to get involved with the festival offering a unique way of being able to showcase something that is not usually available for free.
“The Scottish Borders has many strong traditions in a range of areas including the famous textile, salmon and farming industries as well as our Common Ridings and other festivals. I would encourage anyone thinking about getting involved to do so.”
