A new fund to support and develop small festivals and events has been launched.
It is hoped that the Community Festivals and Events Small Grant Scheme will encourage and inspire new and existing organisations to strengthen and develop events, attract and engage new audiences and promote, celebrate and raise awareness of the Scottish Borders as a place to live, work and visit.
Grants of up to £5,000 available
Awards of between £3,000 and £5,000 are available to community groups and organisations across the Borders.
The funds can be used to create new events, enhance existing events and small festivals, develop new and innovative ideas and support sustainable practices as part of festivals and events.
The Community Festivals and Events Small Grant Scheme is in addition to the existing Local Festival Grant Scheme which supports larger community festivals across the region. Those in receipt of funding from the Local Festival Grant Scheme are not eligible for the new scheme.
Councillor Scott Hamilton, Executive Member for Community and Business Development
“I am delighted that we’re able to launch this new fund, which will hopefully result in some new events and festivals being developed, and allow existing ones to grow and become more sustainable, financially and environmentally.
“We already have a fantastic calendar of events and festivals in the Scottish Borders which support the local economy, generate lots of community involvement and engagements and attract visitors, and it will be great to see that grow further.”
Community Cycling grant scheme
The new Community Cycling Fund grant scheme announced last week has also now opened for applications. It aims to support the delivery of local community cycling events and activities which encourage and inspire new and existing cyclists, reach and engage new audiences to participate in cycling activity, and encourage cycling within under-represented groups, including children and young people, girls and women.
In addition, the fund can be used to connect and add value to existing cycling initiatives, programmes, events and infrastructure to promote and celebrate the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships and the power of the bike.
