New Councillor elected to represent Jedburgh and District

Scottish Conservative and Unionist candidate John Lawrence Bathgate has been elected as a Councillor for the Jedburgh and District ward following a by-election on Thursday 22 February.

Six candidates contested the by-election, which took place following the resignation of Pam Brown. The overall turnout for the vote was 32.8%.

Councillor Bathgate joins Councillor Scott Hamilton and Councillor Sandy Scott in representing the ward.

The electronic count took place on Friday, 23 February, at Council Headquarters, Newtown St Boswells, with Councillor Bathgate elected at stage one.

“Both the electronic count and the voting yesterday ran very smoothly.

“I would like to welcome Councillor Bathgate to the Council and would like to thank all the staff involved for their considerable efforts in helping electors exercise their democratic rights.”

  • Phil Dixon, Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Ray Georgeson, Scottish Liberal Democrats
  • Kaymarie Hughes, Scottish Labour Party
  • Charles Strang, Scottish Greens - Think Global Act Local
