Buildings across the Scottish Borders will be among those participating in a captivating Doors Open Days this year

Celebrating its 35 year, Doors Open Days is a national event that provides free access to sites and activities throughout Scotland, promoting awareness of the country’s built and cultural heritage and ensuring it is accessible to all.

Events in the Scottish Borders will be taking place across 7 and 8 September and allow the region to showcase the places for which it is known for including some lesser-known hidden gems.

What to look forward to

Scottish Borders events taking place include:

  • Free guided tours of Borders Distillery
  • The chance to explore Channelkirk Church
  • See behind the scenes at TD9 Radio, where visitors will see live programmes being broadcast and have a look around the studios
  • Walks around the largest Roman fort site north of Hadrian’s Wall - Trimontium Fort

Details of all the events and activities taking place both locally and nationally - are available on the Doors Open Days website

Councillor Simon Mountford, Executive Member for Estate Management and Planning

“It is fantastic that we can showcase our amazing buildings as part of Doors Open Days.

“The event provides a free behind-the-scenes experience for both local visitors and those from further afield.

“Doors Open Day presents an exciting opportunity each year, and for its 35th anniversary there is a wide range of properties throwing their doors open. I encourage anyone interested to take part, and to step inside these properties.”

Joe Traynor, Director of Scottish Civic Trust, Doors Open Days national coordinator

“Every year Doors Open Days allows us all to enjoy Scotland’s places and spaces for free. This is more important than ever this year, as travel costs continue to rise leading many to seek more affordable experiences.”

“Some of Scotland’s greatest treasures are right on our doorstep or easily accessible by local public transport. Doors Open Days makes it simpler than ever to plan a cost-effective and unique day out.”
