Edenside Primary School and Nursery class receives positive report from Education Scotland

Published: 4th February 2025

The Education Scotland report on Edenside Primary School and Nursery class published on 4 February 2025 has recognised several key strengths in the school’s work

During their visit in November last year, inspectors talked to parents/carers and young people and worked closely with the head teacher and staff.

Key findings

Inspectors found that staff across the school and nursery work well together to ensure children learn in highly inclusive and nurturing environments. These are underpinned by the strong school values.

Staff across the school were also found to use a range of approaches to engage and motivate children in their learning. This includes the effective use of digital technology to enhance and deepen learning.

Inspectors also found that staff across the school have taken positive steps to raise children’s attainment and achievement. As a result, children are confident, eager to learn and attain well.

Improvement areas

The following two areas for improvement were identified and discussed with the head teacher and a representative from ourselves:

  • Staff in the school and nursery should improve approaches to meeting the needs of all children including those who require increased challenge in their learning.
  • Senior leaders need to develop further opportunities for staff to work together with colleagues within and beyond school to improve their understanding of national standards. Staff should develop a more accurate understanding of children’s progress.

Karen Dixon, Headteacher at Edenside Primary School

“I am delighted with our school inspection report. It highlights the inclusive and nurturing approaches that we use at Edenside, which underpins the learning we provide. Inspectors have recognised that our children are at the heart of all we do, throughout nursery and school, enabling them to be confident children who engage well with learning.

“I am proud to lead a strong and dedicated staff team who build positive relationships with children and their families. Our focus to raise attainment and achievement for all our children will continue, working towards our school vision”.

Russett Turnbull, Edenside Primary Parent Council Chair

I am happy with the report as it clearly reflects the work and life of the school. It recognises how strong the nurturing approaches are in our school which benefit all the children. Our teachers make learning fun, so it is a happy environment where our children thrive. The whole staff team and school community work hard together to support all children to attain and achieve well. The Parent Council will continue to support the school in the areas identified for improvement.”

Inspectors are confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve and will make no more visits in connection with this inspection
