Views sought on new Sport and Physical Activity Strategy

Published: 11th February 2025

A public consultation has been launched inviting people who live and work in the Borders to give their view on the new Sport and Physical Activity Strategy 2025.

The consultation offers Borderers the opportunity to view the draft strategy, take part in the survey and to share their views on the key actions under each theme of the strategy.

The 6-week consultation is now live and will be open for comment until Sunday 23 March 2025.

The strategy is a living document, designed to grow and adapt as goals are reached and has been crafted in close collaboration with NHS Borders, Sport Scotland, Live Borders, Public Health Scotland, and valued Third Sector partners.

The overall vision is to ensure that everyone living, working and visiting the Borders can participate in and benefit from being involved in sport and physical activity, creating opportunities for everyone to improve their health and wellbeing and achieve their full potential.

Scottish Borders Council Leader, Euan Jardine, said:

“I am delighted to introduce the new Sport and Physical Activity Strategy for the Scottish Borders – a key priority of the new administration.  Sport is deeply woven into the fabric of our region, and the Borders has a proud history of producing exceptional athletes.  Our vibrant club network and reputation for hosting world-class events, like the recent UCI World Cycling Championships, are testaments to our region’s commitment to excellence in sport.

“We must continue to nurture and adapt to the future and changing habits in terms of sport and physical activity and this is why we are launching this new strategy not only to sustain the growth of sport but to inspire and engage people and communities across the Scottish Borders in leading active, healthy lives.   Given the impact the new Sport and Physical Activity Strategy will have on our communities, the Council recognise how important it is to seek the views of those living and working in the Borders.

“The Consultation is a valuable way to gather the views of individuals, understand their needs and determine whether the strategy can successfully meet future challenges in the Borders, and support our shared ambition to make the best of sport and physical activity opportunities”.

A report on the findings of the Consultation will be taken back to Council for their consideration.
