Public consultation on the sale of School Brae public toilets in Peebles goes live

Published: 10th March 2025

Peebles residents are invited to share their views on a Council proposal to sell the School Brae public toilets.

Proposal to turn unused public toilets into re-use hub

A Community Asset Transfer request has been submitted by Peebles Community Trust which would see the organisation turn the unused facilities into a re-use hub for the local community.

The Trust is seeking an alternative location for its popular re-use hub following the decision to demolish the School Brae Hub building it currently occupies within the next five years.

The proposal would see the Trust refurbish the entire structure and expand its operations to include an online service.

Details of the consultation & how to submit feedback

The consultation can be accessed on Citizen Space and is open until Sunday 6 April.

Alternatively information can be accessed at Peebles Library or Peebles Contact Centre.

Residents can also submit their comments via email to communityengagement@scotborders.gov.uk, or by post to the Communities & Partnerships Team at Council Headquarters, Newtown St Boswells, TD6 0SA.

All responses must include the respondent's name and address.

Councillor Simon Mountford, Executive Member for Planning and Community Assets:

“Since its inception in 2020, the Reuse Hub run by Peebles Community Trust has thrived and become a vibrant centre of activity.

“This proposed sale of these former public toilets presents a wonderful opportunity to repurpose the space and allow the Trust to expand their Reuse Hub operations.

“I would encourage as many people as possible for the Peebles and surrounding areas to participate in this consultation and share their thoughts and feedback.”
