Latest updates on Storm Dudley and Storm Eunice
Last updated: Tuesday 15 February at 11:15am
The Met Office has amended two of the weather warnings for the coming days:
- Amber warning for wind (Storm Dudley) is now in place from 4pm Wednesday 16 February to midnight Wednesday 16 February
- the underlying yellow warning for wind is now in place from 3pm Wednesday 16 February to 6am Thursday 17 February
- a further yellow warning for wind (Storm Eunice) remains in place from midnight Thursday 17 February to 9pm Friday 18 February
- the warning areas cover all of the Scottish Borders
There is still some uncertainty in the timing and location of the strongest winds but Storm Dudley has the potential to bring inland wind gusts of 70-80 mph in places. Gusts of 80-90 mph are possible around exposed coasts and hills.
Residents should be prepared
Residents are asked to be prepared for the conditions with the Met Office warning of the potential for power cuts, damage to buildings and fallen trees.
Transport services may be affected, with the likelihood that some roads may be closed, leading to longer journey times.
There is also the potential for disruption to coastal communities with beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, roads and properties.
