What is Cycle Skools
Cycle Skools is games based bike skills for primary 3s to primary 7s.
Each block is made up for four 45 minute sessions focussing on the off road skills needed to enjoy biking. Some sessions are aimed at mountain bike skills where riders will tackle lumps and bumps and some are for honing generic cycling skills. Each session is run in a small group so that riders can work at differing levels of ability. It is recommended that any riders signing up for mountain biking skills have completed the generic course (or similar) first.
Courses on offer
General Cycle Skills
General cycle skills are taught in fun group games and activities. The activities are conducted on grass or tarmac and may involve slight hills progressing to more challenging hills. A bike with working brakes is essential to take part as is a helmet.
Mountain Bike Skills
Mountain Bike Skills may be taught in a park environment or start to venture onto off road trails. Generally we will teach the basic skills needed for mountain biking without tackling trail centres features. The techniques might include wheelies, riding roots, jumps and hops but all children progress at different rates and not all riders will achieve all skills in 4 weeks. Bikes should ideally have gears and must have two working brakes. Not all bikes are manufactured for jumps so our coaches will often adapt the sessions to the equipment.
Please note your child must:
- be collected from each session
- bring a working bike and helmet
