Applications for 2022-25 panel
The Curator ad Litem Panel is a list of appointed professionals from which a Sheriff can select an individual to act as Curator.
Role of Curators
Curators are appointed by the Sheriff in cases, particularly child cases or cases involving a vulnerable adult, where the Sheriff needs to appoint an independent individual to contact and interview the various relevant associated parties involved in the case.
Appointing the panel
We have a statutory requirement to reappoint a Panel every three years.
We are currently updating the membership of the Curators ad Litem and Reporting Officers Panel and looking for applicants to join the list of panel members.
Who can apply to be on the panel?
Anyone, appropriately qualified, can apply. Parties outwith the Scottish Borders may apply, as well as those based locally.
Applicants should fall within one of the three following categories and meet the relevant criteria as stated:
- being either a Member of the Law Society of Scotland or the Faculty of Advocates, together with evidence of relevant experience of Court practice and procedure, and of family law matters
- being registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and holding either a CQSW or DipSW qualification, together with relevant experience of Court practice and procedure, and of family law matters
- a person currently registered with the GTC and holding either a Bachelor of Education, or another degree and a post graduate Diploma in Education, together with relevant experience of Court practice and procedure, and of family law matters
