Kelso will host the Start and Finish of Stage 1 of the 2024 Tour of Britain on Tuesday 3rd September.
Below you will be able to find out more about the Tour of Britain’s visit, including information about road closures and parking restrictions.
Tour of Britain – Kelso Town Centre – Tuesday 3rd September
The Tour of Britain attracts some of the world’s top cyclists, including Olympic, World and Commonwealth champions and the Scottish Borders has hosted successful stage starts and finishes over a number of years, including in Kelso town centre in 2017 and 2019.
This year, Kelso will host both the stage start and finish, with the entire route in the Borders.
Road closures and potential disruption to home deliveries
The following town centre road closures and restrictions will be in place before and during the event. If you are expecting any home courier deliveries during these times, please can you make alternative arrangements.
Closures
The following roads will be closed on Tuesday 3 September 2024 from 09:00 to 17:00:
- Roxburgh Street, Kelso- from Union Street to Edinburgh Road
- Edinburgh Road, Kelso - from Roxburgh Street to Angraflat Road
- Angraflat Road, Kelso - from Edinburgh Road to Golf Course Road
- Golf Course Road, Kelso - from Angraflat Road to Edenside Road
- Edenside Road, Kelso - from Golf Course Road to Dryinghouse Lane
- Dryinghouse Lane, Kelso - from Edenside Road to the A698
- A698 - from Dryinghouse Lane to Guards Road, Coldstream
The following roads will be closed on Tuesday 3 September 2024 from 04:00 to 21:00:
- Kelso Bridge, Kelso – from Maxwellheugh to Bridge Street
- Bridge Street, Kelso – from Kelso Bridge to The Square
- The Square, Kelso
- Roxburgh Street, Kelso – from The Square to a point 200 metres north of Union Street
- Horsemarket, Kelso – from The Square to Rose Lane
- Woodmarket, Kelso – from The Square to Simon Square
- Abbey Row, Kelso – from The Butts to Bridge Street
- Abbey Court, Kelso
- Mill Wynd, Kelso
- Peat Wynd
- Duns Wynd
- Vault Square
Alternative Route
To avoid the town centre closures, follow Maxwellheugh, Station Road and the A698.
Sentries will be situated at closure points to advise the public.

The following car parks will be closed to vehicular traffic from 18:00 on Monday 2 September 2024 to 21:00 on Tuesday 3 September 2024:

No Parking
Parking will be prohibited on the following roads from 18:00 on Monday 2 September 2024 to 21:00 on Tuesday 3 September 2024:

The one-way order on Union Street, from Roxburgh Street to Crawford Street, Kelso will be reversed on Tuesday 3 September 2024 from 03:45 to 21:00
Temporary Taxi Rank
A temporary taxi rank will be situated on East Bowmont Street in the west half of the layby at Henderson’s Court between the hours of 03:45 and 21:00 on Tuesday 3 September 2024
Temporary Bus Stop
A temporary bus stop will be situated on East Bowmont Street in the east half of the layby at Henderson’s Court for westbound buses between the hours of 03:45 and 21:00 on Tuesday 3 September 2024
