Tour of Britain 2024

Information for residents

Kelso will host the start and finish of Stage 1 of the 2024 Tour of Britain on Tuesday 3 September.

The Tour of Britain attracts some of the world’s top cyclists, including Olympic, World and Commonwealth champions and the Scottish Borders has hosted successful stage starts and finishes over a number of years, including in Kelso town centre in 2017 and 2019.

This year, Kelso will host both the Stage 1 start and finish, with the entire route in the Borders. The race will also pass through the finish line in Kelso at the start of a loop before returning for the sprint finish.

Road closures and parking restrictions

Information on road closures and parking restrictions is available. Minimal restrictions are required outwith Kelso.

Signage will be erected in advance in the areas affected and properties within 100ft of the race route will also receive communication from British Cycling Events.

We would ask residents to ensure that they adhere to the parking restrictions, which are essential to facilitate the race and for the safety of riders and spectators.

Kelso residents can make use of on-street and off-street parking elsewhere in the town where this is not restricted. Border Ice Rink car park is also available for resident parking on the evening of Monday 2 September and throughout Tuesday 3 September. Parking at Borders Events Centre, Springwood Park is available between 7.30am and 6pm on Tuesday 3 September.

Please note that electric vehicle charging points within the car parks subject to parking restrictions will not be available.

Parking for Blue Badge holders will be available at the Coalmarket car park, managed by stewards.
