Home Energy Efficiency Programmes for Scotland

These Scottish Government schemes support the uptake of home energy efficiency measures for those that have difficulty paying their fuel bills and keeping their home warm. They help to tackle fuel poverty and increase the uptake of home energy efficiency measures.

Area Based Schemes

Using funding awarded by the Scottish Government, we are able to offer grant funding for eligible private homeowners in areas with high fuel poverty. The measures available typically include external and internal wall insulation and hard to treat properties.

Priority areas for the year 2023-24 are targeting the following:

  • internal wall insulation
  • air source heat pumps
  • PV (photovoltaic panels) and battery storage

To find out if you may be eligible, contact Home Energy Scotland on 0808 808 2282.

To hear about Scottish Borders residents experiences of this scheme you can read our internal wall insulation, external wall insulation and air source heat pump  case studies.

Warmer Homes Scotland

Warmer Homes Scotland provides funding for energy-saving home improvements like heating and insulation to help make your home warmer and cosier. The Scottish Government offers this support to homeowners and private sector tenants who have lived in their home for more than 6 months and who meet the eligibility criteria.

Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan

Scottish Government provides grants and/or an interest free loan to help homeowners and private sector landlords with a range of energy-saving and bill-reducing low-carbon technology, from loft insulation to heat pumps.

The amount of grant and loan funding available depends on what improvements you want to make, and you can apply for Home Energy Scotland grant funding without needing to take out a Home Energy Scotland loan. People living in rural and island homes can claim extra support, called the rural uplift, because of increased installation costs in rural areas.
