Check your bills
Are you on the best energy tariff for your needs? If not, we recommend using the Ofgem site for support on switching.
Switch off lights and appliances when not in use
- turning your lights off when not needed
- turning your appliances off at the plug
Take control of your heating and hot water
- understand your controls to set your heating and hot water to come on and off when needed
- try turning your thermostat down by 1°C
- if you have them, use your radiator thermostats to control the heat in individual rooms. Money can be saved by turning down the heat in rooms that you do not use
- bleed your radiators
Keep the heat in the home
- draw your curtains and blinds in the evening to keep the heat in
- use draught excluders to minimise cold draughts
- close internal doors to keep the heat in the rooms that you use the most
Be smart with appliances in the kitchen
- only boil as much water as you need in the kettle
- use a washing up bowl instead of running the hot water tap
- fully load the washing machine and wash your clothes at 30°C
Use less water in the bathroom to save on your energy bills
- try and spend one minute less in the shower each day
- fit an energy efficient shower head to help reduce your hot water usage
- consider having a shower instead of a bath
Fit LED bulbs
- replace a 50W halogen bulb with an LED
