About our household kerbside collection service
We provide households with:
- a general waste wheeled bin (180 litres)* and collect it fortnightly
- a recycling wheeled bin (240 litres)* and collect it fortnightly
- internal and external food waste caddies (Galashiels, Hawick, Jedburgh, Peebles, Selkirk and Tweedbank only) and collect it weekly
How many bins we'll collect
We'll only collect one bin per household on each scheduled collection, unless we've assessed there are special circumstances.
Extra recycling
We'll collect extra recycling if your bin is full. This should be put in bags (not black bags) and placed beside your recycling bin. Large cardboard boxes can be flat packed and put beside your recycling bin for collection. Please try to keep the cardboard as dry as possible (do not present it on rainy days), wet cardboard produces a low quality recyclate.
Extra general waste
We'll not collect general waste which isn't in your general waste bin. Extra waste can be taken to a Community Recycling Centre. If you have a large family or someone has a medical condition that generates extra waste you may be eligible for a larger bin.
Communal bins
In some locations communal bins may be provided for a number of households to share due to space restrictions or other circumstances.
General waste and recycling bags
We can issue bags to a household if they're unable to use a bin because of their individual circumstances. You can request an assessment for bags.
What goes in each bin or bag
Bins or bags containing the wrong items won't be collected, so it's important to get the right stuff in the right bin or bag.
