Trunk road maintenance and safety
A trunk road is defined as a major road which is the recommended route for long-distance travel.
Trunk roads in the Scottish Borders area include:
- A68
- A7 (from Kingsknowe roundabout southwards)
- A6091 (Melrose bypass)
- A702
- A1
All trunk roads in Scotland are overseen by Transport Scotland, but the maintenance of the roads in each area is contracted to external operating companies
BEAR Scotland is the maintenance contractor for Scotland’s South East Trunk Roads Network.
If there are any road safety issues/concerns involving one of the trunk roads listed above, report problems to BEAR Scotland.
