Border Timber Transport Group
This is a multi partnership group with representation from ourselves, Police Scotland and various representatives of the timber transport industry.
The group meets bi annually and seeks to minimise the impact of timber transport on:
- the public road network
- local communities
- the environment
Timber transport routes
The group’s main working document is the Agreed (Timber) Routes Map (ARM). ARMs are developed by the timber transport groups at local authority level. These categorise the roads leading to forests in terms of their capacity to sustain the likely level of timber haulage. Where there may be significant impact from timber haulage, either on the road itself, or to communities and other road users, there is a requirement for liaison between the forestry interests and our roads department. The group will meet to develop a solution that:
- enables timber transport
- addresses community concerns
- protects the road
