Inspire Learning background
Inspire Learning is transforming teaching and learning across the Borders for the benefit of all teachers, children and young people.
Extensive investment in a world class digital learning environment in Scottish Borders schools was agreed on 28 February 2019. Here's a flavour of what Inspire Learning has to offer.
Inspire Learning Programme
This programme is aimed at raising attainment and supporting equality and inclusion for all children and young people. It is about investing in the learning of our young people and putting them at the heart of education, improving outcomes and success for all. The successful rollout of digital technology in schools will ensure our children and young people develop a level of general and specialist digital skills that are vital for learning, life and work in an increasingly digital world.
The programme can unlock the potential of our young people, benefiting individuals, families, the Borders’ economy and society as a whole.
Inspire Learning in Schools
The “Inspire Learning” is SBC’s Digital Learning Transformation Programme and has to date delivered an Apple iPad to every teacher, ELC practitioner and every P4 to S6 pupil across all Borders schools, as well as class sets of shared iPads for the use of every P1 to P3 pupil and Early Years. The programme continues to support teachers in the best use of the technology in the classroom and is committed to achieving a uniquely high digital skills and education baseline for all Borders teachers through an extensive, bespoke package of professional learning and development.
The increasing importance of the role of technology in education is clear at all levels. With access to devices to support learning and teaching being recognised as critical in the post pandemic period, the demand for accredited professional learning to support educators and learners is forecast to increase over coming years as governments seek to support education through access to devices and skills.
We have achieved Apple Professional Learning Provider accreditation and as one of only two in the UK, is set to provide Apple accredited training to teachers across Scotland, the UK and beyond.
Inspire Learning: Tweedbank
The opening of our Centre of Excellence for digital learning in Tweedbank provides a regional level environment for students, teachers, business and communities to develop digital skills in a world class space. It is our aim to ensure that this environment is replicated in our schools.
Connectivity is at the core of our digital vision and is a key pillar supporting its transformation programme in order to deliver the wide ranging economic and social benefits that affordable digital connectivity for public services, citizens and businesses across the towns and the rural areas of the Borders will enable.
We delivered a project that doubles the live capacity of the Wide Area Network to 2Gb/s to each secondary school in the Borders. This investment provides future flexibility for future increases in bandwidth up to a total connection of 20Gb/s in each school.
This project delivered full fibre into each of the towns where our secondary schools are situated, offering potential opportunity to open up the market and drive down service costs for fibre connectivity for local businesses and residents.
