General Information

Making donations and other ways you can help

You can donate to local or national charities or organisations who are currently making appeals for support.

The Charity Commission and Fundraising Regulator urges people to give safely to registered charities helping and supporting those affected by the invasion of Ukraine. You can find out more about registered charities online.

National and international organisations

  • The Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal is being co-ordianted by the Disasters Emergency Committee. DEC brings together 15 leading UK aid charities to raise funds to quickly and effectively respond to overseas disasters. The message from aid workers is that money is needed rather than specific donated items which are often not necessarily what people require and are difficult to transport.
  • The With Ukraine website is run by the Embassy of Ukraine and can be used to donate directly to the Ukrainian government use.
  • The Ukrainian Humanitarian Fund UN Crisis Relief can be used to make a donation towards the United Nation's humanitarian work in Ukraine.
  • The British Red Cross supports people by supplying shelter, medicines, water, food and clothes.
  • Unicef deliver life-saving programmes to children along with water to areas heavily affected by war.
  • Oxfam is taking donations through the website or in their shops.

Local organisations

  • Home Basics is a local social enterprise who support people on low income and means-tested benefits with the purchase of basic household furniture and electrical items. They also operate a self-referral discount scheme which has been extended to include displaced Ukrainians and other refugees who might find themselves rehoused and needing basic items. Based in Walkerburn and Hawick, they welcome donations from across the Borders.
